Everything we do requires energy; we need it to power our homes, gadgets and transport. Many of us spend more on energy than we do on anything else. Yet when it comes to how it is produced, where it comes from and how much it costs, we have very little say.
Hampshire Renewable Energy Co-operative (HREC) is part of a revolution in energy production that puts local communities in charge.
Formed in 2013 by volunteers from across Hampshire, HREC was created to help change the way our energy is produced in the county. We support the development of a range of renewable energy projects that produce low-carbon energy for the benefit of the people of Hampshire.
Our co-operative structure gives control to the individuals and organisations who join us. One Member = One Vote is our democracy. We give local people the chance to have a say in the future of energy production in Hampshire.
Through education, community engagement and expert advice we aid the transition to clean, localised energy production for a greener county and stronger communities.
